Financial Statement Audit

An independent audit opinion on financial statements is often mandatory for a Public Interest Entity. We conduct these audits in accordance with International Standards on Auditing. Those standards require that we comply with ethical requirements, planning and performing the audit to obtain reasonable assurance as to whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement. We adopt a technology-enabled risk-based approach throughout the audit process, from pre-engagement to reporting.

Performance Information Audit

Some entities are required to report performance based on their predetermined objectives. This is quite typical for entities linked to the South African government. These audits are performed in accordance with the Public Audit Act 25 of 2004 (PAA) to report on the usefulness and reliability of the reported performance information against predetermined objectives.

In addition to auditing in accordance with the Public Audit Act of 2004 (PAA), we conduct audits of non-financial information that require specialist knowledge. These engagements are typically very specific requirements to the entity and projects being reviewed, meaning the procedure and the report have to be tailored accordingly.

Review Engagements

For entities that have a lower public interest, the full audit requirement can be superfluous. If that is true for your entity, you might find an independent review more appropriate. This ensures that you have someone who takes an independent look at your financial statements, but not to the extent of a “full audit”.

This service provides stakeholders with limited assurance on the accuracy and completeness of financial statements. These engagements are conducted in accordance with the International Standards on Review Engagements 2400 (Revised). Typically, these engagements are aimed at lower-risk engagements, and we generally rely on analytical procedures and inquiries with management in addition to some follow-up procedures when required.

Agreed Upon Procedures

From time to time, entities may require an independent person to establish facts regarding a particular issue within their operations. These requirements can be imposed by regulators, required for oversight purposes or even by third parties.

These engagements are conducted in accordance with the International Standards on Related Services 4400 (Revised). As these engagements are about establishing facts, there is no assurance provided on these, but rather we issue a Factual Findings Report. When engaged in this assignment, it is essential to agree on the procedures to be executed upfront with management.
